Traveled from Edinburgh to Alderney yesterday with a couple of hiccups on the way. Ryanair were late leaving Edinburgh and worse, it took over half an hour for our bags to unloaded which meant that bag check in on Aurigny had closed ( they close an hour before the flight - only domestic carrier that does to my knowledge). Rang Aurigny in the Channel Islands via mobile to see what could be done - nothing! Person on the phone was curt and unsympathetic. I started rebooking new tickets for Wed. Then a guy from Menzies Aviation came out and asked if we needed help. Peter explained the situation and he told us the plane had been delayed and he would see what he could do. In no time he was back, had checked luggage in and told us to race through security. Told the bitch on the phone to cancel tickets as we could get our original flight. Lovely fellow in airport security let us use the fast track line and we raced for the gate. Plane had only just arrived and was unloading passengers.!!!!!!! Our plane left 40 minutes late and we have since learned that its departure from Guernsey had been delayed due to fog - something the 'customer service'? person at Aurigny would have known.
Our flight from Guernsey to Alderney was also late by 20 minutes. It was raining when we left Guernsey and cloudy across to Alderney. We flew in a Trislander (maximum 12 passengers) which has propellers. The flight over was fairly smooth as was the landing at Alderney. After landing the pilot turned around and asked one of the passengers if she had hit a sea gull on the way in!
Today we went exploring the island:
Victoria B&B where we are staying
Lovely stone
houses ( newish as built 18th century)
Interior of St Anne's church where Peter's relatives were hatched, matched and dispatched
Methodist Church where Peter's relatives were hatched, matched and dispatched
Old clock tower from original St Anne's church
St Anne ville
Memorial for slave labourers killed during WW2
Only 1400 live on the island these days - very pretty and picturesque place to live 😀
